Daris Hale is a dynamic force in the world of music and education, seamlessly blending her roles as a performer and educator. She performs frequently on international tours with her chamber music groups, while she remains dedicated to teaching at Texas State University and performing with the Austin Symphony Orchestra.
Passionate about musical outreach and education for underserved communities, Daris crafts innovative educational experiences that broaden her students’ horizons and enhance their opportunities for success. Her outstanding contributions have earned her numerous accolades in teaching and international education, such as Outstanding Achievement in International Education, and Presidential Distinction Award in Teaching. She has also
performed educational concerts for thousands of Texas children, commissioned and recorded new children’s pieces, produced children’s albums, and collaborated with an Emmy award-winning children’s TV show.
With over 25 years of international scholarly research, Daris is also committed to the universalization of indigenous music.
Collaborating with composers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Colombia, and Ecuador she helps bring their ethnic music traditions to the global stage. Consistently known for challenging classical music traditions and encouraging the creation of new works, she is especially focused on chamber music and nurturing young composers. She champions these new works by producing concerts and albums that feature their compositions, as well as publishing and recording their music for western instrumentalists As a Fulbright Scholar in Nepal, Daris plans to continue her pursuit of collaborations with international composers. She will be working with the music faculty and students at Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University and Nepal Music Center to expand musical heritage and create new works, some of which may be heard with Daris’ many performances that are included on streaming platforms such as iTunes, Spotify, as well as television, and over 100 live concerts per year.
